I made the system derive the files again. The thumbnails appeared but vanished after a while.

mmmh strage thing is that the IA system normaly uses a differend picture as place holder for the thumbs as long as it is still working on the files ......
the one shown at your item indicate that the derivation is finished but failed at one point
i had a similar problem once, i did use an modified mp3 codec for one of my uploads soundtrack and the derivation engine could not handle it
